Message in a bottle #1

What We’ve Been Up To

We took things at a relaxed pace lately. After spending a couple of weeks in Almerimar, catching up with both new and old friends, we decided to set off on a two-night sail to Torrevieja. Once there, we had to wait for the right weather window to continue, so we made the most of it by exploring the town. One of the sailors from a neighboring boat even introduced us to wingsurfing. Greg jumped right in and, I have to admit, he picked it up pretty quickly!

After Torrevieja, we sailed overnight to Formentera, where we swam in the crystal-clear waters, rented a scooter to explore the island and just took it easy. It was exactly what we’re aiming for now—slowing down and enjoying the journey.

Since then, we’ve circumnavigated the entire island of Formentera, taking in its beauty from every angle.

If you’d like to read the whole story of our adventures, you can find all the details on Polarsteps!

A Hidden Gem We Found

We definitely recommend visiting Es Caló in Formentera, and here’s why:

It’s one of those places that feels like a hidden gem. Tucked away on the northern coast, Es Caló has some of the clearest, bluest water we’ve ever seen, perfect for swimming, snorkeling or just floating around and soaking up the calm. What makes it extra special is the vibe; it’s a small fishing village that feels far removed from the busy touristy spots, which makes it a perfect escape if you’re looking to slow things down.

If you’re into hiking, Es Caló is also the starting point of the Camí de Sa Pujada, an ancient Roman path that leads up to La Mola.

Meet the People We’ve Met

We want to introduce you to Peter from Pinoseed, a truly creative and kind soul we first met while navigating the canals last year. It’s amazing how the sailing community brings people together, and we were thrilled to reconnect with him in Almerimar!

Peter has recently embarked on an exciting venture by launching a webshop that features his beautiful t-shirts made from organic materials. What makes these shirts even more special is that they’re printed right on his boat! Each piece reflects his passion for sustainable fashion and the love of the sea.

But that’s not all—Peter also crafts stunning necklaces from beach finds. He has a knack for turning simple treasures into unique pieces of art that carry a story of their own.

It’s always a joy to meet someone who is not only talented but also committed to sustainability and creativity. We’re inspired by Peter’s work and the positive impact he’s making through his craft. If you’re looking for some lovely, eco-friendly apparel or unique accessories, be sure to check out his webshop!

Life Lessons from the Sea

After two years of living at sea, we’ve learned so much about sailing, life, and ourselves. These experiences have shaped the way we approach travel, and that’s why we’ve developed our own travel philosophy. It’s all about slowing down, embracing the journey and truly savoring the moments along the way. We’re excited to share more of what we’ve learned with you in future, both the highs and the challenges, and how it has transformed the way we explore the world.

Gear We Never Knew We Needed

At the start of our journey in 2022, we purchased the Sun Shower Under Pressure (10 Liters) from Decathlon, and it has been an absolute game-changer for us. We highly recommend it for anyone who loves sailing, camping or simply enjoying the great outdoors.

One of the first things we noticed about this shower is its practical design. With a 10-liter capacity, it provides plenty of water, making it perfect for rinsing off saltwater after a swim or taking a refreshing shower after a long hike. The pressure system ensures a consistent flow of water, which makes it feel much more like a real shower rather than just a quick splash from a bag.

Another fantastic feature is the solar heating capability. Simply leave it in the sun for a few hours, and you’ll have warm water ready to go, which is a luxury when you’re out in nature!

Using the shower is a breeze, thanks to the easy-to-use nozzle. We still have the ‘old’ version, but the newer model comes with a nozzle that has multiple settings, allowing you to choose from a gentle mist to a more powerful spray, depending on your preference. It’s also lightweight and compact, making it easy to pack along with your camping gear or take aboard our sailboat.

What we love most is how versatile this shower is for various activities. It’s perfect for rinsing off sand, saltwater or dirt, enhancing our outdoor experience by allowing us to stay clean and comfortable no matter where we are.

The durability of the Sun Shower is also impressive. We’ve had ours for almost two years now, and it has proven to be built to last, which is essential for outdoor gear that sees a lot of action.

In short, whether you’re a sailor, a camper or someone who loves spending time outdoors, this product is a must-have! You won’t regret adding it to your gear collection.

A Love For Reading

We absolutely love reading while we’re out on the water, whether it’s with a good old-fashioned paper book or our e-reader. There’s something so peaceful about getting lost in a story while surrounded by the sounds of the sea. It really adds another layer of enjoyment to our sailing adventures.

One book we can’t stop talking about is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This novel follows the journey of Santiago, a young shepherd who dreams of finding treasure near the Egyptian pyramids. As he travels, he meets a bunch of interesting characters who share their wisdom with him. It’s not just about the treasure; it’s about self-discovery and following your dreams.

What we love most about The Alchemist is how relatable it is. Coelho’s writing is beautiful and inspiring, making it a joy to read. It really reminds you to listen to your heart and go after what matters to you, which feels especially relevant when you’re living a life on the move.

This book has sparked some great conversations between us about our own journeys, both on the water and in life. If you’re looking for a captivating read for your next sailing trip, we highly recommend The Alchemist. It’s a timeless story that’s sure to enrich your experience as you navigate the open waters!
